Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have sacked Professor Richard Akindele for allegedly demanding sex from a student, Monica Osagie, to upgrade her mark.
The decision was announced by the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, at a press conference in Ile-Ife on Wednesday.
He said the Governing Council of the institution sacked Akindele “having found him guilty of all the charges against him.”
Miss Osagie told an investigative panel set up by the university in April that Professor Akindele deliberately failed her because she refused his sexual demand.
She said she did not score 33 per cent as the lecturer claimed, but was failed so that she could offer sex in return for marks.
Osagie, a student in the master of business administration programme, had earlier released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which the lecturer identified as Akindele, demanded five rounds of sex to enhance her marks.
