Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday paid tributes to the late mother of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
The funeral service for Saratu Tukur, who died at the age of 103, was held at the COCIN Center in Gwarangah, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
In his condolence message, Obasanjo acknowledged the pain of losing a mother, urging Dogara and his family to find solace in the life she lived and the love she shared.
Buhari, represented by the former secretary to the government of the federation Boss Mustapha, described her death as an inevitable end which every mortal must pass through.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the life of Saratu as worthwhile which should be emulated by all.
Represented by the senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ahmad Ningi, Akpabio noted that the community will really miss the services to humanity rendered by the deceased.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Niger State Governor Umar Bago were also present.
Dogara described his mother as an exemplary woman, promising to share her story with the world someday.
“Mama’s life modeled guts, gumption, grit, gravitas and groundedness,” he said.
“Mama was also relentless and as bold as a lion with a more compelling impactful presence. I am grateful beyond words to have fallen heir to your legacy of reckless boldness which defined your walk with God and the multitudes you touched in special ways.
“I am comforted by the fact that my soul knows that you are at peace with the Lord when you are told these gracious words, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.'”
