Former President Olusegun Obasanjo met with president of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon, in the first week of August, multiple reports have said.
Obasanjo reportedly travelled to Zanzibar, Tanzania, last week but left for Benin Republic during the week.
Punch quoted a source in the Republic of Benin who said Obasanjo was in Porto Novo, the capital of the Francophone country during the week.
Obasanjo met with the ex-President of Benin Republic, Nicephore Soglo, who recently lost his wife, Roseline Soglo.
Following the condolence visit, the former Nigerian leader also visited Talon. It could not be immediately confirmed if Obasanjo spoke with Talon about Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho who is currently detained in Benin Republic.
“He was in Benin Republic on Monday and he met with the President but nobody knew what they discussed,” Obasanjo’s spokesman Kehinde Akinyemi said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), also met with Talon recently in Benin Republic. The ex-COAS met with the Beninese President to present his letter of credence.
