Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has emerged the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 19 election in the state.
Mr Obaseki was announced the flagbearer on Thursday following ratification by party delegates after his main rival, Kenneth Imasuagbon, pulled out of the race.
The governorship primary was supervised by Governors Bala Mohammed, Bello Mattawalle and Seyi Makinde of Bauchi, Zamfara and Oyo respectively.
Mohammed, who was the chairman of the governorship primary committee, said that voting still took place in line with the party’s constitution, the electoral act as well as acceptable democratic practices.
He said that Obaseki polled 1,952 votes while 72 votes were declared invalid from the 2,020 total votes cast. Total delegates, according to him, were 3,234.
Obaseki will now face his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the polls.
