The family of Nigeria’s former de facto Vice President Augustus Aikhomu on Tuesday held a memorial service in honour of the 10th anniversary of his death.
The thanksgiving memorial service was held at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Lagos.
In attendance was Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki; senior pastor of Trinity House Church in Lagos, Ituah Ighodalo; wife of former Senate President Toyin Saraki; and senior naval officers.
Mrs Saraki shared photos from the event on Instagram.
She wrote, “Today, I honoured the highly respected memory of our beloved Former Vice President, His Excellency Admiral Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu GCON, MNI, FNIM, October 20th 1939 – August 17th, 2011.
*Joining the family of Former 2nd Lady Mrs Rebecca Aikhomu, and His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State as well as senior members of Nigeria’s Navy at the 10th Year Thanksgiving Memorial Service, at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Lagos, we prayed that our bounteous God through all our lives be near us, with ever joyful hearts, and blessed peace to cheer us, and keep us still in grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ills, in this world and the next.
“May the soul of our dearly beloved Vice President Augustus Aikhomu continue in blissful rest. Amen.”
Aikhomu died on August 17, 2011, aged 71. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and five children, Mark, Eheje, Vinitha, Suzanne, and Ebi.
His younger brother Rear Admiral Joe Aikhomu, a former chief of naval administration, died in February.
