The reinstated deputy governor of Edo State Philip Shaibu has said that Governor Godwin Obaseki needs to beg Edo people following the defeat of the PDP in the governorship election held on Saturday, September 21.
Shaibu and his supporters joined the APC in the build-up to the election after he fell out with Obaseki over his ambition to succeed him as governor.
“I feel vindicated and I thank God for it,” the deputy governor, who was impeached by the Edo House of Assembly but reinstated by a court, said on Monday on Arise TV.
“I am excited and not only am I excited I have also cancelled that negative impression and blackmail that Philip Shaibu does not win his ward. It’s a lie, I’ve never lost my ward and my unit.
“Even the governor could not win his local government. I won my unit which is number one now in the state. I won my ward and in the local government number one…where is the governor’s result? He has never won. We have always assisted him but unfortunately, he got the power and decided to start kicking us and removing the ladder. It’s very unfortunate, I hope he learns his lesson.
“What is left for him now is to go back and start begging and apologising to people of Edo State and he has a lot of them that he needs to apologise to.”
Etsako West Local Government which is home to both Shaibu and Edo APC leader Adams Oshiomhole saw APC’s governorship candidate Monday Okpebholo polling 32,107 to defeat Asue Ighodalo, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, who got 17,483.
Obaseki, a PDP member, lost his local government Oredo to the APC.
Okpebholo polled a total of 30,780 votes in Oredo, Ighodalo got 24,938 votes while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party polled 5389 votes.
