Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has officially announced he would be contesting for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming party primaries.
Shaibu made his declaration in a televised announcement on Monday.
This comes amid reports that Shaibu’s team had to make last-minute changes after Eterno Hotels in Benin City cancelled the deputy governor’s team’s booking to use the hotel for the announcement.
The hotel, located in the Government Reserved Area, Benin, is said to be owned by a PDP bigwig.

Edo deputy gov Shaibu withdraws suit against Obaseki
According to PUNCH, Shaibu was contacted by the management of the hotel that the space was no longer available for his use and his money was refunded. The hotel management reportedly told the Shaibu team that Obaseki Finishing Well Group had paid for the same venue.
Shaibu and his principal Governor Godwin Obaseki are not on good terms over his ambition.
At the height of the crisis, Shaibu dragged Obaseki and the state House of Assembly to court, seeking an order to stop them from impeaching him.
Obaseki openly accused Shaibu of being overambitious.
Though Shaibu later apologised to Obaseki and the latter said he had forgiven him, the Edo State Government relocated Shaibu’s office out of the government house.
