Billionaire businessman Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has responded to criticism following his public declaration of his son, Alex Iyiegbu, as his next of kin.
The backlash began after Obi’s adopted son, Chidi Iyiegbu, shared a video online in which he referred to himself as the next of kin.
Not long after, the 50-year-old took to Instagram to post photos of himself and his biological son Alex, describing the boy as his next of kin—a move that many saw as a subtle way of discrediting Chidi’s statement.
The post didn’t sit well with some social media users who argued that Obi could have avoided debunking Chidi’s claim publicly, especially considering their family ties.
Addressing the uproar on Wednesday, the nightlife entrepreneur returned to Instagram with a new message.
This time, he shared warm family moments captured during his 50th birthday celebration.
In one of the pictures, Obi Cubana is seen holding his wife and one of their sons while the rest of the children gathered around them, smiling and embracing one another.
In the caption, Obi appeared to downplay the controversy, stating that his entire family shares a deep bond, adding that they are all “next-of-kins.”
“We Vaib, we bond, we cruise, they talk!
Las las, all of us na next-of-kins!
Ngwanu, anyi apuo!” he wrote in a mix of English and Igbo.
