Odemwingie opens Bristol goal account in home debut

Nigeria striker, Osaze Odemwingie, netted his first goal for Bristol City as they further eased their Sky Bet Championship relegation fears with a 6-0 thrashing of bottom club Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The Stoke loanee notched his side’s third goal with a brilliant left-footed finish from the edge of the box after latching onto Aaron Wilbraham’s 53rd-minute flick-on.

His strike at Ashton Gate is his first in almost two years – since scoring for Nigeria against Bosnia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The 34-year-old could have made it two when he hit the outside of the post from a narrow angle after taking advantage of defensive hesitation to round Bolton keeper Paul Rachubka.

Apart from the former West Brom man, Lee Tomlin, Scott Wagstaff, Jonathan Kodjia and a Joey Bryan brace ensured The Robins picked all three points with six quality goals.

Bristol has thus far shown ruthlessness in attack and are yet to lose since Odemwingie joined the championship club – with back-to-back victory over Fulham and Bolton.

The defeat means Bolton are 12 points from safety with only eight games left, while City have a six-point cushion above the relegation zone.
