Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has filed a legal suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja against the NHRC.
The law professor is asking the court to determine the legality of the oath of secrecy which the commission has requested its staff to sign.
Odinkalu shared photos of the court’s documents on Monday via Twitter.
“We have today filed a suit against #Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, #NHRCTweets & its staff union, before the Federal High Court in Abuja asking the Court to determine the legality of the Oath of Secrecy that the Commission’s Management is forcing staff to sign,” he said.
The professor, who is now the senior team manager for the Africa Programme of Open Society Justice Initiative, had first raised alarm over the oath on July 8.
He said he learnt that the staff union of NHRC had instructed the commission’s employees not to sign the oath.
