Former chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has questioned the rationality of the Nigerian Army’s decision to ban motorcycles in Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Kastina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States.
The army on Sunday announced the ban on the use of motorcycles in the north western part of the country where it is holding exercise “Harbin Kunama” to wipe out banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the zone.
The army said it had noticed that bandits now deploy the use of motorcycles in those areas to facilitate crime.
Odinkalu, however, in a tweet on Monday, said that it would affect poor farmers who find it difficult to get to their farms.
“In Kaduna, Kastina, Sokoto, poor ppl can’t go to farm & have bn banned from Okada. That’s how impoverishment happns,” he wrote.
