Ogun APC spokesman Tunde Oladunjoye dies in UK

Publicity Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tunde Oladunjoye, has died.

The 58-year-old former Ijebu East Local Government chairman died on Friday at an undisclosed hospital in the United Kingdom, where he had gone to seek medical treatment.

His family, in a statement confirming the loss, said details of his burial would be announced in due course.

Until his death, Oladunjoye held various key roles within the APC at both state and national levels.

He served as assistant publicity secretary of the directorate of strategic communications for the APC presidential campaign council during President Bola Tinubu’s campaign for the 2023 election.

He was also a member of the party’s publicity committee during its presidential primary.

In 2023, Governor Dapo Abiodun appointed him senior consultant on media.

The APC stalwart was also the running mate to General Tunji Olurin in the 2007 governorship election in Ogun State.

Beyond politics, Oladunjoye had a long-standing involvement in journalism and media advocacy.

He covered international events like the Cannes Film Festival in France, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival in Burkina Faso and the 2013 World Hunger Summit in the UK.

He also reported on Nigeria’s Eminent Persons Agricultural Summit in Geneva the same year.

Paying tribute, the Ijebu Youths Association described Oladunjoye as “a champion of progress, who tirelessly advocated for the betterment of Ijebu land.”

It added, “The demise of Hon. Tunde Oladunjoye is a significant loss to our community. His generosity and kindness earned him respect and admiration from the people.

“We pray that Almighty God grants the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his legacy continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for excellence.”

Governor Abiodun, in a condolence message, said he received the news of Oladunjoye’s death with “disbelief and shock.”

He said, “This is a terrible loss. He was an erudite spokesman and chief consultant to the Ogun State Government.

“Tunde was forthright, down to earth, and a consummate politician who always stood gallantly and unwaveringly by any cause he believed in. He was a stabilising factor both in Ogun APC and in government circles.”
