Police in Oyo have said that trado-medical practitioner, Fatai Yusuf, popularly known as Oko Oloyun, who was killed on Thursday, detected fraud in his office in Lagos.
Mr Yusuf was shot dead by unknown gunmen on his way to Oyo State.
Oyo police spokesman, Olugbenga Fadeyi, in a statement on Friday suggested that the attack could be linked to a fire incident in the deceased’s Lagos office to cover up suspected fraud.
“An interesting twist to the story was that the deceased had earlier detected an alleged bookkeeping records fraud in his Lagos office, which subsequently allegedly led to the burning of some financial/bookkeeping records,” he said.
“In addition to other possible motives, a plausible nexus is, therefore, being suspected between the fire incident and the attack on the deceased.
“Some of his staff and two police escorts are being questioned by a team of crack detectives from the homicide section of State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, with a view of finding and apprehending the fleeing suspects, who committed the heinous act.”
The police are interrogating two armed escorts and other staff of the deceased.
