A former minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi among others have congratulated Akinwumi Adesina on his re-election on Thursday as president of the African Development Bank.
Okonjo-Iweala, who is also seeking appointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, congratulated Adesina on Twitter.
“Wonderful to get the news of the re-election of @akin_adesina as President of @AfDB_Group. Hearty congratulations to you, my brother, and to Grace! Wishing you five more fruitful years!!” she wrote.
Fayemi also wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to our brother, Dr Akiwumi Adesina on his re-election as President, African Development Bank. Truly well deserved.”
“Dr Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected for a second tenor of 5 years as the President of @AfDB_Group. The election was by a double majority from the regional and non regional countries. 100% of Regional and 100% of Non Regional Votes. CONGRATULATIONS DR ADESINA!!” Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning Zainab Ahmed wrote on Twitter.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa also tweeted: “A hearty congrats to Dr Akinwunmi Adesina on his re-election for a second term of 5 years as the President of the African Development Bank. @nidcom_gov wishes you great success ahead.”
Adesina will lead the AfDB for another five years after being cleared of allegations of misconduct and abuse of office.
