Former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has commended the work of a young Ghanaian inventor.
The former World Bank executive shared a video on Twitter on Sunday of a handwashing machine made by the man whose name was not mentioned.
“Solutions to #COVID19: Our young people are ingenious. Take a look at this attractive hand washing machine invention by a young Ghanaian!” Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said.
The handwashing machine is powered by solar energy with sensors that ensure that one does not need to hit the tap to get it running.
To use the machine, the inventor demonstrates in the video, one needs to put hands close to the sensors which then get soapy water out.
On releasing the soapy water, the timer runs for 25 seconds to enable one wash the hands properly before water comes out automatically.
The inventor urged the government of Ghana to embrace the technology in order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus as experts advise that regular handwashing remains the best prevention against the disease.
