The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun presenting certificates of return to senators-elect excluding most notably, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
The returning officer for the state, Prof Francis Ibeawuchi, had said he pronounced Okorocha winner of the Imo West senatorial election under duress, prompting INEC to withhold his certificate of return.
In response, Okorocha on Wednesday said INEC lacked the authority to withhold his certificate of return.
The commission on Thursday, however, began presenting certificates to senators-elect at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, leaving Okorocha behind.
House of Representatives’ members-elect
The commission had earlier announced that only those whose names appeared on its website as winners of the election would be presented with certificates.
