Former governor of Imo State Senator Rochas Okorocha has made a fresh call for the release of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

Mr Kanu is facing charges of treason and terrorism at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He is being held by the Department of State Services (DSS).

At the night of tributes held on Monday in Abuja in honour of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Okorocha asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio to help secure freedom for Kanu.

“I want to say to you my brother, the Senate president, convey this one message on behalf of the Igbos who are seated here that the best way to honour this young man (Ubah) is the release of Nnamdi Kanu so that the Igbos can go home and reorganise their place,” he said.

“And I know you Senator Akpabio even if you don’t want to do it, for the sake of your wife, who is our daughter, send this message and get us a result or else your wife is not too far from being taken back home.”

Ubah represented Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

He died at the age of 52 on July 26 in London. He is to be buried on November 22.
