Police in Imo have confirmed that the ex-governor of the state Rochas Okorocha has been released following his arrest on Sunday.
Okorocha was arrested after he led supporters and security forces to unlock Spring Palm Estate which was sealed by the Uzodimma administration.
The estate which is linked to Okorocha’s wife Nkechi is being investigated.
Imo police spokesman Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed Okorocha’s release on Monday on Channels Television’s breakfast show Sunrise Daily.
“He was released later at night,” he said. “If anybody is found culpable, definitely, he will be charged to court. If investigation proves that he (Okorocha) has committed an offence, he will be charged to court.”
Meanwhile, Okorocha has accused an aide of his successor Hope Uzodimma of causing violence at the scene with “more than 1,000 thugs” but the commissioner for information Declan Emelumba dismissed Okorocha’s claim.
