Okowa appears first time in public after EFCC’s arrest

Ifeanyi Okowa

Former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa has made his first public appearance after his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged involvement in a N1.3 trillion fraud.

Okowa, detained on November 4, 2024, and released last Friday after his passport was seized, joined Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday at a service of songs honoring Victoria Obielum, mother of politician Godwill Obielum.

The event held at Obielum’s residence in Asaba, Delta State’s capital, saw a large turnout, including Delta State PDP chairman Solomon Arenyenka, members of the party’s state executive committee, political dignitaries and senior and retired security officers.

Mrs. Obielum died aged 87 on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She will be buried on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Obielum’s residence in Ushie, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

Pastor Ifeanyi Ogude of Heaven Bound Christian International Church Ministry delivered a sermon at the event, emphasising the importance of dedicating one’s life to serving God and humanity.

He said, “Nobody knows when death will come, and as such, people should be prepared by living a good life and leaving worthy legacies behind, as they will be remembered for what they did.”
