Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, has been banned for three games after being sent off in stoppage time during Torino’s 3-2 home defeat to Bologna, Serie A’s disciplinary committee said on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Chelsea, was banned for one match for receiving five yellow cards. He received a further suspension for showing an “intimidating attitude” towards the referee in Saturday’s defeat to Bologna.
He had earlier apologised for receiving what was his first career red card.
“Sorry for the defeat and for the red card, we learn and move on,” Aina posted on Instagram.
The former Hull City defender has been impressive since moving to Italy in the summer, helping eighth-placed Torino to keep 10 clean sheets in 24 league appearances, and weighing with a goal.
His suspension will see him miss games against Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Parma, with the chance to return to Walter Mazzarri squad ahead of Cagliari clash on April 14.
Aina, though, is on the sidelines and withdrew from the Nigeria squad that will face Seychelles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and Egypt friendly on March 22 and 24 respectively.
He has been replaced with Akwa United forward, Ndifreke Effiong.
