Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has added Manchester City starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho, to his squad to face Swaziland in the FIFA World Cup qualifying double header in November.
It is the teenager’s first call-up to the senior national team.
The coach had earlier omitted the player from the 23-man squad announced on Thursday but quickly moved to include the 19-year-old after his latest showing for the Citizens.
Iheanacho’s goal and two assists earned him the Man of the Match accolade as City crushed Crystal Palace 5-1 to advance to the quarterfinal of the English Capital One Cup.
The youngster has become a fan favourite at the Etihad Stadium after developing under coach Manuel Pellegrini into a first team regular – breaking from the club’s elite development squad.
“I initially called up 23 players but I am adding Kelechi Iheanacho to the list immediately, “Oliseh told thenff.com.
“I have been following Kelechi’s progress at City.”
The Nigeria Football Federation announced Iheanacho’s inclusion, writing on Twitter: “Coach @SundayOOliseh invites @MCFC striker Kelechi Iheanacho (@67Kelechi) for Swaziland! List now 24.”
