Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, does not think Chisom Chikatara was Nigeria’s most outstanding player at the just concluded African Nations Championship.
Chikatara, 21, narrowly missed out on the tournament’s top-scorer award after hitting four goals in just three games for the home based Eagles.
Despite Nigeria’s woeful performance in Rwanda that saw the team eliminated at the group stage, Chikatara’s exploits in front of goal earned him loads of plaudits from fans and pundits.
However, his manager has made a shocking revelation that El-Kanemi Warriors midfielder, Ifeanyi Matthew, was his “best and most consistent player”.
Oliseh hinted that the former Flying Eagles star’s performances has won him over and for that reason, he is guaranteed a place in the main Eagles team.
“From CHAN, it is no secret that Ifeanyi Mathew was our best and most consistent player there,” Oliseh revealed.
“Personally, he is one of the players I am looking at for the Super Eagles. I just hope he does not lose form or suffer any injury.”
The former skipper further disclosed his plans for next month’s crucial AFCON qualifier against Egypt.
He said: “I plan to invite two players for each wing and they will fight it out in training. The player who is more ready will play.
“I will not see home based or foreign based player when they hit camp.”
