Sunday Oliseh’s Fortuna Sittard edged closer towards a historic promotion to the Dutch League thanks to a 2-1 victory over Go Ahead Eagles on Friday night.
Sittard have continually toiled on the fringes of Dutch football after suffering relegation in 2000.
The battle since then hasn’t been to return to the Eredivisie but keeping hold of their status in the country’s second division.
They came close to dropping to the third-tier before Oliseh showed up midway into the last campaign and mysteriously turned everything around.
Now, the Nigerian appears to be eyeing more surprises with his team who have surged to second on the log.
Oliseh’s lads showed great character to recover from a shocking lead from Sam Hendriks after 22 minutes.
Wessel Dammers then struck twice in just two minutes in the closing stages of the game to hand all three points to the Nigerian.
The important win takes Oliseh’s team to second with 26 points – six behind table-toppers NEC.
When it comes to goal difference, Sittard flaunt the best in the division having racked up 32 goals, conceding 16.
