The Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogungunniso I has clocked 92.
He currently sits as the 41st Olubadan following his coronation on March 4, 2016.
Born on August 26, 1928 to the family of Raji Olayiwola and Suwebat Amope Adetunji in the Alusekere compound, Popoyemoja, Ibadan, the Olubadan is the eldest of his father’s 17 children.
His mother came from the Balogun family of Apomu while his father was a renowned Ibadan indigene. Like many influential figures in those days, Adetunji’s father had more than one wife. Of the four children that his mother had, he (Oba Adetunji) and his brother Ambali are the surviving ones.
Oba Adetunji took the mantle after the demise of Oba Samuel Odulana.
In a statement on Wednesday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde through his chief press secretary Taiwo Adisa said the foremost monarch “personifies greatness and honour.”
He also said the tenure of the monarch, whom he described as a royal pillar and custodian of Ibadan’s great values, rich history and tradition, has witnessed huge successes, unprecedented growth and development in his domain.
“On behalf of the government of Oyo state, the sons and daughters of Ibadanland and the good people of Oyo state, I celebrate our revered father and monarch, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, on his 92nd birthday,” Mr Makinde said.
“Kabiyesi, as you add another year, may the Almighty God uphold you and imbue you with good health and agility to continue to lead your people.”
