Captain Mathew Ekeinde, the husband of Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has flown a Chinese medical team out of Nigeria.
The 42-year-old actress made this known on Instagram on Thursday, though it is not clear if it is the same team invited to help tackle coronavirus in Nigeria.
In the picture she shared, the flight crew are wearing face shields while the team are in their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
“Is this the new normal? #TheCaptain went on his first Flight today in 2 months!
Those are the Chinese ppl that flew in some time ago leaving! Not sure how to feel,” she wrote.
The 15-man medical team which included experts in infectious diseases, respiratory illness, intensive care, cardiology, neurology, general surgery, anesthesiology and a journalist, arrived in Nigeria on April 8.
They had come on the invitation of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
In a statement released to Punch Newspapers on May 18, Executive Director, CCECC, Jacques Liao, disclosed that the team had completed their assignment but had been unable to leave the country because there were no commercial flights.
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, had said during a briefing by Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 that he did not know the whereabouts of the Chinese visitors.
He added that the team, whose invitation had been opposed by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) were not guests of the Federal Government but that of the construction company.
On April 2, Omotola revealed that she was relieved that her husband of 23 years did not have to fly anymore due to the coronavirus travel ban.
“Happy new month Osexynationals. So much has been going on with me…From anxiety of my husband flying and having to disinfect /sanitize the house daily … Thank God, no more flights…,” she wrote.
