Super Eagles vice-skipper, Ogenyi Onazi, has expressed his delight to finally return to the pitch after a fortnight of inactivity due to injury.
Onazi, 25, raptured his ankle in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 trashing of Kayserispor early this month and hasn’t featured since then.
The midfield enforcer was sorely missed to the extent his coach intends to rush him into this weekend’s game.
“Obviously, I feel excited to be back,” the ex-Lazio star revealed.
“I already started training with the team today ahead of Saturday’s game. The coach wants me to start the game but I’m taking my time, so I told him, no rush.”
Trabzonspor are currently fifth on the log and would need to produce some fine results to reach for a continental slot.
And Onazi is quite aware of the task ahead and isn’t giving up.
“Playing in Europe next season will obviously be a massive one for everybody in the club,” he added.
“But with five games left and 11 points behind 4th placed Fernabahce, we know it’s now beyond us. But we are hopeful a miracle can happen.”
The versatile midfielder has featured in 18 games this season for Trabzonspor, starting in 15 of them and scoring twice in the process.
He has an average rating of 6.9, completing 82% of his passes, creating five big chances, winning an average of two tackles per game and has not committed a single error leading to goal all season.
