Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a traditional ruler in Ondo State Oba Israel Adeusi the Olufon of Ifon.
It was gathered that Oba Adeusi was returning to his town from Akure, the state capital, where he went for a meeting with other frontline traditional rulers in the state when he was attacked.
The monarch was shot at Elegbeka community along Ifon-Benin Highway.
Ondo police spokesman Tee Leo-Ikoro confirmed the incident to the news media.
The Olufon was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo where he eventually died.
Mr Leo-Ikoro noted that the commissioner of police in the state Bolaji Salami has directed all police divisions in the area to focus on the incident.
