The body of singer, songwriter and broadcaster Onyeka Onwenu has been moved to the Ikoyi area of Lagos for interment.
Family and colleagues of the singer gathered in the early hours of Friday at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos for a service of songs to bid farewell to her.
The ceremony began with a solemn hymn, marking the arrival of the body of Onyeka, affectionately known as the Elegant Stallion.
Pallbearers dressed in traditional Igbo attire and accompanied by her two sons, Tijani and Abraham Ogunlende, led the procession.
After the service of songs, her body was taken to a private vault in Ikoyi for interment.
The event attended by few friends and relatives was planned to be a private occasion in compliance with Onyeka’s wish for a quick and simple burial.
Among the figures at the private ceremony were Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and ace musicians Orits Williki and TeeMac Omatshola-Itseli.
Onyeka Onwenu died on July 30 after performing at the birthday party of industrialist Stella Okoli in Lagos.
