Broadcaster Soni Irabor on Saturday revealed that the late singer and songwriter Onyeka Onwenu was scheduled for an interview on his show, Soni Irabor Live (SIL), this month.

Onyeka died at age 72 after performing at the 80th birthday party of the founder and chief executive of Emzor Pharmaceuticals Stella Okoli on Tuesday night in Lagos.

Popularly called the Elegant Stallion, Onyeka was confirmed dead at Reddington Hospital after doctors battled to save her.

Irabor, 72, said in an Instagram post that July 30 will not be forgotten in a hurry, adding that he would have some of Onyeka’s friends and colleagues on air this Sunday to pay tributes to her.

“July 30 is a day the Entertainment world will not forget in a hurry!” He began.

“It was the day our Elegant Stallion, Onyeka Onwenu suddenly passed after performing at a friend’s 80th birthday party.

“Onyeka was hail and hearty before and during her stage performance. Soon after her performance last Tuesday night, she slumped and that was it. Onyeka was scheduled to be my guest this August on SIL News Central TV. That was not to be.

“This Sunday on Soni Irabor Live on Inspiration 92.3FM, some of her friends and colleagues pay tribute to one of Africa’s most talented artistes. A Broadcaster, an Actress and a great musician of note! Today we remember her for the legacy she left behind. She was 72.”
