Abraham Ogunlende, son of singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has revealed that his mother will be buried within a month to fulfil her wish for a quick burial.
The bereaved spoke on Tuesday during a condolence visit by the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN).
Abraham expressed the family’s heartfelt gratitude for the visit, saying “We are at a loss for words. We say thank you on behalf of Onyeka Onwenu.”
Abraham took a moment to acknowledge those present, appreciating their “kind” and “wise words”. He noted that his mother died doing what she loved. “As Uncle Tee (Mac Iseli) has said, she died doing exactly what she loved and in a way that she wanted to. It is not for us to question,” he said.
Abraham also shared the family’s intention to honour their mother’s wish for a swift burial.
“She doesn’t want people to be sad for a long period of time but to celebrate her, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We are already making arrangements to celebrate her life. It is the most important thing for us to do right now,” he said.
Abraham confirmed the family will lay the musician to rest within a month. “We’ve made some plans and are finalising them. We would be honoured to have you join us in celebrating her,” he said.
The MCSN delegation was led by Juju music maestro King Sunny Ade and veteran reggae singer Orits Wiliki. Others who joined them were flautist Tee Mac, music executive Kenny Ogungbe, and MCSN director-general Mayowa Ayilaran.
Onyeka, a member of MCSN, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 30, after performing at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okoli, founder and CEO of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
