An unnamed man on Tuesday evening broke two gates and forced his way into the compound where a house occupied by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is located in his Ile Oodua’s palace in Ile Ife.
A source in Enuwa, the palace’s location, who did not want to be named, said a man driving a Mercedes Benz car with two passengers, had driven to the entrance of the palace some minutes before 7 pm, Punch reports.
The vehicle was denied entrance and the driver asked to park.
The source said before security officers could check the vehicle, the passengers had disembarked and ran away.
The driver, it was learnt, then forced his way in, hit the first gate and the second and drove towards Ooni’s residence.
“He later disembarked. The man was dressed in a long robe and had a dog with him,” the source said.
“The dog was later shot dead, while the man was apprehended. The man was later taken to Moore Police Station in Ile Ife.”
A source in the palace told the newspaper that it was not an attack on the palace or the revered monarch.
Osun police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, and spokesperson for Ooni, Moses Olafare, could not be reached for comments.
