Former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu, has asked to be granted bail that would result in him leaving the prison.
The ex-governor was jailed on December 5 for 12 years after being found guilty of N7.65 million fraud.

Mr Kalu on Tuesday filed the application for bail pending hearing of the appeal of his conviction on health grounds.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), however, opposed the application, arguing that bail is for accused persons on the presumption of being innocent.
The anti-graft agency said that Kalu could no longer enjoy such privilege since he has been convicted.
Justice Mohammed Liman adjourned till December 23 for ruling on the bail application.
