Former Kaduna governorship aspirant Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to a statement by the Senate Chief Whip Orji Kalu that the possibility of presidential candidate Bola Tinubu picking a Muslim, like himself, as running mate should not be a problem because Tinubu’s wife is a pastor.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Kalu had said Tinubu’s wife Senator Oluremi Tinubu is a pastor and that should mean something to the electorate.
“We should stop all this rubbish about whether you put a Christian, after all the wife is a pastor and she is already like a deputy president,” he said.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central at the Senate from 2015 to 2019, tweeted on Wednesday night that Kalu wants Mrs Tinubu to become a co-president like Zimbabwe’s former first lady Grace Mugabe allegedly was to her late husband Robert Mugabe.
“Uzor Kalu wants our Madam to become Co-President like Grace Mugabe,” he wrote.
Kalu has been criticised in many quarters for his statement. According to his critics, the former Abia State governor is calling for a disregard of religious sentiments which is still an integral part of Nigerian politics.
