National chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday breached protocol at the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office.
Mr Oshiomhole had joined the line of dignitaries to receive the President on his arrival at Eagles Square at about 10 am in red-carpet reception.
Among dignitaries who were on official list to receive Mr Buhari were the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; Acting Chief Justice Of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Muhammad, among others.
Oshiomhole was approached politely by a military officer to leave his position beside the acting CJN and return to his seat.
APC’s internal troubles took another turn on Tuesday when deputy national chairman of the party, Lawal Shuaibu, in a letter dated May 27, asked Oshiomhole to resign.
Meanwhile, the inauguration was witnessed by only one former head of state, Yakubu Gowon.
Buhari was re-elected with 56 percent of the vote, defeating his main rival, Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who came second with 41 percent of the vote.
Buhari’s victory at the polls is being challenged by PDP and a few other political parties at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
