Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been cleared by the team’s medical doctors to join his teammates in Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire in preparation for the semi-final clash against South Africa in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Osimhen missed the Super Eagles trip to Bouake on Monday night, February 5 after suffering abdominal discomfort.
He was immediately placed on observation by team medics.
Following concerns about him, some sports journalists announced on X on Tuesday afternoon that doctors had cleared him to join the team.
Pooja wrote, “Victor Osimhen is enroute Bouake to meet up with the team after he was CLEARED by the Doctors.”
Sports Dokita also wrote, “Victor Osimhen has been cleared by the Super Eagles medical team and is set to join the rest of the team at Bouake where they’re preparing for the Semi-finals against South Africa tomorrow.”
However, a former press officer of the Super Eagles Colin Udoh gave a clearer picture of the situation.
He wrote on X, “Victor Osimhen has been cleared to travel and will join the team in Bouake. But the clearance is only for travel. Will still need to be observed and will only play if cleared by team medical staff.”
Announcing Osimhen’s arrival in Bouake, former media officer of the Super Eagles Toyin Ibitoye wrote on X: “Good news. Victor Osimhen is now with the @NGSuperEagles in Bouake.”
The Super Eagles also wrote on X, “Victor Osimhen has been declared fit and available for selection in the semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday. He has joined the team in Bouaké and has trained with the squad today.”
Nigeria will take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana by 6pm on Wednesday, February 7.
Osimhen has started in every game of the Super Eagles at the tournament and has been crucial to the team’s progression despite finding the net only once.
