Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has reported feeling discomfort in his abdomen two days to Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash against South Africa.
The 25-year-old, who has scored one goal in five matches at the AFCON so far, did not travel with the team to Bouaké, Cote d’Ivoire on Monday due to the discomfort.
According to information released by the team on social media, medics have placed him under close watch.
“Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm,” the team announced.

Nigeria will take on South Africa by 6pm on Wednesday.
Osimhen has started in every game of the Super Eagles at the tournament and has been crucial to the team’s progression despite finding the net only once.
The 2023 CAF African Player of the Year is considering a move away from Italian club Napoli in the summer.
