Osimhen yet to apologise for social media outburst – Finidi George

Finidi George

Ex-coach of the Super Eagles Finidi George has said that star forward Victor Osimhen had yet to apologise for his social media outburst some months ago.

Osimhen knocked the coach in June after reports claimed George singled him out for criticism following a run of bad results in two World Cup qualifying matches.

Several ex-players said Osimhen’s behaviour was unprofessional and showed lack of respect for local coaches.

Some football enthusiasts called for him to be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

George, who now coaches Rivers United in Nigeria’s Premier Football League (NPFL), said he contacted the forward to address the situation but got no reply.

“I sent him a message that it was not the best way, just someone telling you that coach said that and you’re talking about me like I said it in an interview,” he told Nigeria Info FM.

“From that point, I didn’t hear from him. I moved on and I wish everybody well, only God will judge.”

George declined comment on claims that Osimhen should have been suspended from the Super Eagles.

“I don’t know, he is there already, let him be,” he added.

“We cannot crucify him, he has made a mistake, we have moved on and life goes on.”

Osimhen scored a goal on Saturday as Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match in Uyo.
