Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has apologised to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom after the latter was barred by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel in Makurdi from receiving the vice president.
NAF personnel attached to the gate of the Air Force Base in Makurdi did not grant access to Mr Ortom to receive Osinbajo into Benue on Saturday.
Prof Osinbajo made a stop in Makurdi while travelling to Wukari, Taraba State to attend the convocation of the Federal University, Wukari.
Ortom, who has been vocal with his criticism of the Buhari administration, had described the action of the security personnel as “unacceptable, breach of protocol and politics taken too far.”
The governor said that he was more upset about the development because he had initially set out to attend the burial of Prof Ignatius Ayua, but had to delegate the duty to his deputy for him to receive Osinbajo.
However, Daily Trust gathered that the authorities of the NAF also apologised to the governor who was eventually granted access to receive the nation’s number two citizen.
