Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday headed to Owo, Ondo State to commiserate with the people over the deadly attack on worshippers.
Over 30 worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church were killed in the attack on Sunday.
Osinbajo’s spokesman Laolu Akande announced via a tweet that the Vice President was on his way to the town.
“The VP heads out to Owo, (Ondo State this morning) where worshippers were heinously attacked yesterday resulting in many casualties. He will deliver president’s condolences and message in person,” he tweeted.
In another tweet, Mr Akande said, “On his way to the airport this morning, VP came across a road traffic accident, stopped to lend assistance, & ensured victim was taken to the hospital with VP’s convoy ambulance. He then proceeded on his trip and is now in Ondo State heading to site of yesterday’s attack in Owo.”
In a statement on Sunday, Osinbajo, who is also a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, said he joined President Muhammadu Buhari to “condemn in strongest terms, the atrocious killing of worshippers Sunday at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Kingdom, in Ondo State.”
He added, “This saddens inexplicably, and I mourn the dead from this very unfortunate event. Also, my thoughts and my prayers go to the victims and their families, the Catholic Church, and the government of Ondo state.”
