The three-man investigative committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari under the chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to inquire into the discovery of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos and the allegations of due process violations in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) will submit its report on Monday, May.
This was made known in a statement signed by the media aide to the Vice President, Laolu Akande.
According to the statement, the panel will complete its assignment on Wednesday present its reports to the President on Monday.
The announcement contradicts a statement by Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who said after a meeting with Buhari on Tuesday that the report would be submitted on Wednesday, May 3.
Specifically, the panel is probing Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke, who were suspended over the PINE contracts and EFCC discovery respectively.
“In the discharge of its work, the panel is expected to invite all relevant officials and private individuals who may be connected to both cases. It will also obtain and scrutinise documents that may throw some light on the issues raised in both cases. All its proceedings will however be in closed sessions to avoid speculations, allow for full disclosure and enhance the pace of proceedings,” Akande said in a statement last week.
