Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has denied receiving N4 billion from the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
Reports had circulated on Wednesday that Osinbajo gave instructions to Magu to release some of the recovered loots and that N4 billion was released by the embattled Magu.
However, in a tweet by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, the vice-president described the reports as “fake news”.
Mr Akande explained that Osinbajo has never been involved in such activities.
He said: “Inundated by wide circulation of fake news about VP’s purported involvement in some EFCC recovery billions, please rest assured they’re all LIES: calculated to confuse and concocted to smear Prof. Osinbajo’s image.
“The VP hasn’t and will never be involved in any such shady activities.”
Magu is being probed for alleged misconduct, living above his means, insubordination, fraternising with looters among others.
