Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday met with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu in Azare, Bauchi State at the wedding ceremony of daughter of the minister of education, Adamu Adamu.
The duo has been in the news as strong contenders for 2023 presidency, although none has declared his intention publicly.
Osinbajo was accompanied by Senate President Ahmed Lawan, governors of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed; Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar; Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, Borno State; Babagana Zulum; Plateau State; Simon Lalong, Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by the secretary to the state government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi; minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, who is also chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, was also at the occasion.
The minister’s daughter, Fatima Adamu, wedded Ibrahim Gamawa at a ceremony blessed by the chief imam of Azare Central Mosque, Abdullahi Usman, after the pronouncement of N100,000 dowry.
Conveying the good wishes of President Muhammadu Buhari was the delegation led by the minister of communications and digital economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, and comprising the minister of information, culture and tourism, Lai Mohammed, and senior special assistants to the president on special duties, Ya’u Darazo; domestic and household matters, Sarki Abba; media and publicity, Garba Shehu, state chief of protocol, Lawal Kazaure, personal physician to the president, Dr Suhayb Rafindadi and the presidential liaison officer, Shehu Bello.
Buhari advised the couple to commit to a life-long union.
In his goodwill message, Gombe State Governor Yahaya said it remained the wish of every parent to see their children grow into adulthood and have their own home with a view of raising their own family.
He charged the couple to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, patience and love while their marriage lasts.
While in Azare, Osinbajo led other dignitaries on a courtesy visit to the emir of the Katagum, Umar Farouk, where he said that Nigeria’s unity cannot be threatened by ethnicity, religion or class.
The vice president noted that the roll call of guests at the event was evidence of Nigeria’s indivisibility regardless of ethnicity, religion and class.
He said, “This is one occasion where you will find that our country is truly a united country and that nothing can separate this country, not ethnicity or religion or class. There is nothing that can separate this country. In fact, this is excellent evidence of the fact that this country is united.”
On his part, the Emir commended the president for all the projects that he was able to complete. They include the Kano-Maiduguri Road passing through Azare town and locating the University of Medical Sciences in the state, among others.
Meanwhile, the presidential delegation left Azare for Kano State to commiserate with the Kano community and the family of the late Islamic religious leader, Ahmed Ibrahim, who was buried in the city on Friday.
