Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, December 21 visited the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and his running mate Kashim Shettima in Abuja.
Laolu Akande, the spokesperson for Osinbajo, disclosed this via Twitter with photos of the duo.
“Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stopped by for a friendly visit at the Abuja residence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu just now,” the tweet read.
He also revealed that the meeting was not a political one.
“At the meeting, VP & Asiwaju exchanged pleasantries in the spirit of the season. And in response to media inquiries whether this was a political meeting, it was not,” the tweet added.
Osinbajo lost the APC presidential primary election to Tinubu at the party’s convention in June. While other aspirants have been drafted into the campaign, the vice president was excluded from the campaign council.
His absence from the campaign council fuelled speculations of acrimony in the party but the party said it was to allow Osinbajo to concentrate on governance.
Though Osinbajo’s stand on the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket has been clear and has pitched him against some party stalwarts, the sources believe that his relationship with Tinubu is still cordial.
Citing previous meetings between the two after the presidential primaries earlier in June, it was noted that Osinbajo’s latest visit to Tinubu was in response to an earlier visit from Tinubu to the vice president after the primaries.
Tinubu had paid the vice-president a visit at his Aguda House residence in the Presidential Villa in June. They both met later at the Ministerial Retreat in the Presidential Villa in October.
