First lady Aisha Buhari and wife of the vice president Dolapo Osinbajo on Sunday paid condolence visits to Fati Attahiru widow of the late chief of army staff Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.
Attahiru and 10 other military officers died in a plane crash in Kaduna on Friday. They were buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.
Mrs Osinbajo and the first lady separately visited the bereaved family at the Flag Staff House, Niger Barracks, Abuja.
Mrs Buhari was accompanied by her children and the minister of women affairs Pauline Tallen among others.
“The death of the Late Chief Of Army Staff and the other military officers aboard the ill-fated aircraft is a monumental loss to their families and the Nation at large,” she said in an Instagram post.
The vice president’s wife had also visited the family on Friday following news of the crash. She was received by wife of the chief of defence staff Victoria Irabor, a source told NAN.
Mrs Osinbajo prayed God to console the families of the fallen officers and also grant them the fortitude to bear their losses.
“She assured Mrs Attahiru and family that both Mr President and the VP would ensure that the memories of the COAS and all the military officers involved would not be forgotten.
“She added that the Presidency and the Federal Government would stand by their families as indicated in the public tributes by President Buhari and his vice,” the source said.
Other visitors at the Flag Staff House according to the source include the minister of defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.), and wife of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Neither President Muhammadu Buhari nor Osinbajo was at the funeral of the military officers.
