Former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, has disclosed that he had a prostate surgery at an undisclosed hospital.
The 78-year-old veteran journalist made the disclosure on Thursday at the ongoing All Nigeria Annual Conference (ANEC) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
According to him, his wife, Derinsola, had queried him for telling friends that he had the surgery.
In his word, “I am 78, I do not think there is anything strange for me to have a prostate operation, so why should I hide it? It is just like a woman entering menopause.”
He added that the culture of secrecy is one of the problems with Nigeria at different levels.
The former editor and managing director of Daily Times, however, did not disclose the state of his prostate, which is a small gland, located in the pelvis, between the penis and bladder.
An enlarged prostate can place pressure on the bladder and urethra, resulting in a difficulty starting to pee, a frequent need to pee and difficulty fully emptying the bladder
In some men, the symptoms of benign prostate enlargement are mild and don’t need treatment.
In others, they can be very troublesome.
Surgery is usually only recommended for moderate to severe symptoms that have failed to respond to medication.
Osoba is father of two sons and two daughters: Kemi, Olumide, Oluyinka and Tobi.
