An Osun Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old, Tunde Morufu, to three months imprisonment for stealing a ram.
The Magistrate, Mr Adebayo Lasisi, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine.
The Prosecutor, Insp Isiaka Ajadi, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Tuesday at about 5p.m. at Ayekale area of Osogbo.
“The convict stole a ram in the vicinity of where he was apprehended.
“He could not give any cogent reason as to how he came about the ram in his possession.
“When he was caught by residents of the area, he also had no evidence to show that he was the owner of the ram,” the prosecutor said.
He said the convict, who was charged with stealing, contravened section 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
The convict had pleaded guilty when his plea was taken.
The defence counsel, Mrs Nnena Ugwu, had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict.
