Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has through his foundation paid the medical bills of an ailing lecturer Inih Ebong.
The lecturer’s wife Uduak Ebong confirmed this to Premium Times, saying her husband who was diagnosed with cardiac failure has been admitted to Prime Clinic, Uyo.
“We have been to the hospital, he has started receiving treatment,” she said.
A representative of Femi Otedola Foundation Philip Akinola said Mr Otedola was moved to help when he read their story published by the online platform.
The 71-year-old lecturer was an associate professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Uyo, when his appointment was terminated in 2002.
He has not been reinstated despite several court orders.
It was learnt that Mr Ebong had trouble with the university authorities for speaking up regularly against alleged maladministration and corruption in the school.
His physician Ime Essien in a medical report issued on October 8, said the lecturer was brought to Prime Clinic in November 2019 because of “recurrent leg swelling and shortness of breath of about 9 years duration”.
