Delirious fans of pop star, Wizkid, started a Twitter war on Saturday after they compared him to the late Afrobeat creator, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
This follows the 27-year-old’s sold out concert at the 5,272-seater Royal Albert Hall in London on Friday night.

The show, which was broadcast live on Wizkid’s Facebook page, also had Wande Coal as guest performer.
Shoutout to @wizkidayo for bringing me out yesterday. Royal Albert Hall was proper lit. Thank you London for making it a great show. #Iskaba

Some fans of the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer who either attended or watched it online then took it upon themselves to compare him with Fela.
He has surpassed fela and tuface as the greatest on the continent . Hands down ! https://t.co/n6qAFUD5mK

Been activist or personal interest in politics or Nigeria situation apart, but musically, Wizkid is on the same level with Fela

Yes, Fela inspired & made this path available for Wizkid. But, today and right now, Wizkid is greater & more accepted.
Success is a ladder

Twitter being Twitter, there was an army waiting to shut down the comparison.
Fela didnt become greatest Saxophonist in Africa, stood for the people, had his mum thrown of the balcony for u to compare him to Wizkid.?

Its disrespectful for anyone to compare wizkid to Fela, abeg Wizkid is doing well & We Are Proud of Him but STOP disrespecting Baba Fela ?
— Osas Cruz (@OsasCruz) September 30, 2017
There is nothing like “Wizkid is better than Fela”. Don’t be unfortunate.
— Bhadmus Hakeem (@Bhadoosky) September 30, 2017
These kids don’t understand that Fela is a movement. Man was so powerful the Nigerian government tried to kill him.
— Imoh Umoren (@ImohUmoren) September 30, 2017
This debate (that is even if it is worth that name) over Fela’s place in history is a reflection of the average age of Nigerian Twitter.

Anybody who says Wizkid is greater than Fela is seeking for attention. Don’t give it to them. Even Wizkid knows that Fela is his great grandfather when it comes to musical greatness.

?Fela had longevity, philosophy, activism and iconography. A lasting musical legacy. Wizkid is an artist in formation #UnderConstruction https://t.co/vDxVjW3AE8

Stop disrespecting Fela by comparing him to Wizkid, That’s a legend who took Africa to the world when there was no social media nor internet
— Amigo (@PapazLagos) September 30, 2017
People dont even know the Yeah Yeah Wizkid tells his crowd to say was from Fela. Lol.
— Cinderella Man (@Osi_Suave) September 30, 2017
People, Wizkid is great, but he is neither the first African nor First Nigerian to sell out the Royal Albert Hall, Sade did so in May 1993.
