Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has endorsed the production of a film depicting the historic Ekiti Parapo War, a pivotal struggle symbolizing the resilience and triumph of the Ekiti people against oppression.

The announcement was made during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, where Governor Oyebanji formalised a partnership between the State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy and AL Notions Film Company, owned by Nollywood couple Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji.

In a statement released by the governor’s special adviser on media Yinka Oyebode, the film, envisioned as a world-class production, will be privately funded. AL Notions Film Company will lead the project in collaboration with a team from the ministry of arts, culture and creative economy headed by the commissioner, Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare.

Governor Oyebanji emphasised the importance of preserving the legacy of the Ekiti Parapo War through a high-quality production that tells the story in vivid detail. He expressed confidence that the project would promote Ekiti’s rich cultural heritage to a global audience.

Adebimpe, also known as Mo Bimpe, an indigene of Ijero-Ekiti, expressed excitement about leading the project alongside her husband. She pledged their unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional film that will honour the significance of the Ekiti Parapo War.

The film will be shot across various Ekiti towns and villages, showcasing the state’s natural landscapes and providing opportunities for local and accomplished artists, especially those of Ekiti origin, to be part of the production.

“Special thanks to his excellency for meeting with us alongside members of his cabinet who were present too. Our culture and history must not be forgotten, our history is about to be revisited. We will continue to tell our stories and keep promoting our culture,” Lateef and Mo Bimpe wrote in a joint Instagram post on Monday.
