Police in Ogun have arrested a pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Ogo-Oluwa parish for allegedly raping his daughter, impregnating her three times and forcing her into abortion.
Oluwafemi Oyebola, 44, was arrested following a complaint by his 24-year-old daughter at the Owode-Egbado Divisional Police Headquarters.
Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the cleric had been living with his daughter since his wife, the victim’s mother, died a few years ago.
The girl reported at the Owode-Egbado divisional headquarters that her father had been forcefully having sex with her since 2015 when she was 19, shortly after her mother’s death.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, told the police that she got pregnant for her father three times, but he took her to a nurse where those pregnancies were terminated.
After terminating the third pregnancy, the victim was quoted saying her father had her undergo a family planning procedure.
She then ran away from home and reported her ordeal to a non-governmental organisation, Advocacy for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, which in turn took the case up to the police.
“During interrogation, the suspect made confessional statements that all his daughter said was nothing but the whole truth,” the police spokesperson said.
Ogun Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, according to the statement, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
